Gravel Grasshopper

Acrotylus

grasshopper marked like its gravel substrate, Acrotylus, f. Acrididae, Kenya, photo © by Michael Plagens

Heavily grazed habitat on a rocky slope, Voi, Kenya. 28 May 2017. Identification was suggested by Jacques Mestre.

Notice the detail of the markings on the grasshopper vs. the multicolored gravel upon which it is sitting! Again, a result of generation after generation escaping the sharp eyesight of the many birds hunting them.

Acrididae -- Grasshopper Family, subfamily Acridinae
