Silent Slant-faced Grasshopper

Parodontomelus (?)

a silent slant-faced grasshopper, Acrididae, Kenya, photo © by Michael Plagens

This grasshopper was observed along a sunny trail in Mt. Kenya Forest Preserve, Kenya. June 2017.

This hopper has an elongated head that migh help it not to be recognized as an edible insect morsel. Most grasshopper males can make noise by rubbing a wing against pegs on a leg, however these cannot make noise.
