Normally the moth keeps its wings folded when at rest. Attracted to electric light at night, Eldoret, Kenya, Dec. 2014.

The immature stage of this moth is a larva (caterpillar) that feeds on various kinds of lichens. The bright color is probably related to toxic chemicals inside the insect's body - a warning to potential insectivores. There may be 15 or more species of Eilema moths in Kenya and many more species of Lithosiini tiger moths.
