Under a loose rock in Gatamaiyo Forest, Nakuru County,, Kenya. Oct 2016. About 10 mm in length.

This jet-black insect is a predatory beetle that would typically be found under logs, loose rocks or leaf litter. There its principal prey are other insects such as grubs and caterpillars. There are many species found throughout the world belonging to this subfamily and look remarkably similar.
