Scoopwing Moth

Scopula (?)

Epipleminae moth from Kenya. Photo © by Michael Plagens

Alighted during daylight on vegetation at Gatamaiyo Forest, Kenya, Oct. 2016.

This moth appears at first glance to be a piece of dried leaf and perhaps that is the evolutionary strategy to avoid predation. There are many species of this moth family in Africa and I've found very little information about them.

Uranidae -- Subfamily Epipleminae
