This butterfly was observed along a road through Kakamega Forest near Rondo, Kenya, Oct. 2016.

Butterflies are important ambassadors for conservation - in this case there are almost 500 species serving to draw attention to the biodiversity hot spot of Kakamega Forest. This one looks fresh, probably only a few days since emerging from its chrysalis. The morning was cool and it was using the sunshine to warm itself. Another common name for this insect is "Eggfly" suggestive of the white spots on black.
