This butterfly was observed along a sunny trail through Mt. Kenya Forest Reserve, Kirinyaga, Kenya. 2 June 2017.

The immature stage of this butterfly, a larva (caterpillar) requires the leaves of violets as food. Viola grows best under cool, temperate climates which in Kenya are restricted to higher elevations of the mountains where there are good soils and plenty of moisture.
