African Clouded Sulfur

Colias electo

Observed along a sunny path through Mt. Kenya Forest Reserve, Kirinyaga, Kenya, June 2017. Wing span is just over 3 cm.

Typically the Pieridae butterflies perch with wings held folded above the back. This can make specific identification based on a photograph difficult because there are many similar species and the top side is obscurred. The pinkish perimeter border makes this montane species more distinctive than most.
