Fever Tree woodland adjacent to Lake Elementaita, Kenya. 6 October 2015.

These colorful, small (length about 14cm) parrots are popular in the pet trade and escapees readily establish populations in suitable habitat. Zimmerman et al. reported that this species was common in the Lake Naivasha area and this photo is from east of Lake Elementaita. Original native range is reported to be in northwestern Tanzania. Some populations of feral lovebirds in Kenya are likely to be hybrids between the several species that have been mixed in the pet trade.
