Short-winged Cisticola
(Siffling Cisticola)

Cisticola brachypterus

Siffling Cisticola, Cisticola brachypterus, photo © by Michael Plagens.

Photographed at Nakuru, Kenya in a small garden area. January 2014. The bird is perched in a Jimson Weed.

There are many similar and confusing Cisticolas in Kenya that can be more easily separated by knowing the songs of the different species. Cisticolas are primarily insectivorous birds that mostly glean prey from foliage. This species is small, has a pale unmarked breast, and normally the streaks on back are evident.
