Nocturnal in the understory of a seasonally dry woodland, Kerio Valley, Kenya. December 2014.

Muridae is the largest family of Mammals and there are many species that might be encountered in Kenya. Specific identification mostly requires a specimen; important identification characters include the teeth and tail morphologies. This species seems to have a very long narrow head which might help. Generally the larger species are called rats and the smaller mice.
