Spiny Acanthus

Justicia ?

Acanthaceae, possibly Justicia sp., from Kakamega Forest, Kenya, photo © by Michael Plagens

Observed along a partially shaded path through Kakamega Forest, Kenya, Africa. December 2014. The long pale filament is the floral style still attached to the developing fruit.

This largely herbaceous plant was found blooming along a sunny path through Kakamega Forest. The flowers are sky blue with two excerted stamens. The tube is relatively broad. There are many Justicia species and in deed this may belong to one of the other genera.
