Composite # 4

Conyza aegyptica ?

The heads are small with 10 to 20 disc flowers and inconspicuous rays. Phylaries are in a singe series and they are pubescent. Eldoret, Kenya. January 2012.

This composite was found growing in pastures where cattle are grazed and thus is apparently not palatable forage. Height is about 1 to 1½ m tall with several branching stems. Primarily herbaceous, but probably long lived.

  • Ray Flowers: The ray flowers are very short and papery thin.
  • Disc Flowers: 10 to 20 with cream to yellowish disc flowers.
  • Phyllaries: Single series with conspicuous pubescence
  • Pappus: Capillary bristles
  • Leaves: Elyptic to deltoid leaves with shallow indentations.
