Observed among roadside vegetation near Wundanyi, Taita Hills, Kenya. May 2017.

FLOWERS: A crowded spike of small flowers. Each flower has about 9 very long and conspicuous red to pink stamens.

SHRUB or TREE: Large shrub or small tree.

LEAVES: Leaves are twice compound with small leaflets. The leaves appear feathery.

RANGE: A native of tropical America. This plant has been promoted to improve soil conditions and to be grown as forage for livestock.

FRUIT:

UNARMED.
