  • Ray Flowers: No ray flowers.

  • Phyllaries: The tough, convex phyllaries tightly hold the seeds and are backed with sharp, branching spines. They are also clothed in cottony pubescence.
  • Pappus: some bristles at top of the seeds.
  • Leaves: The simple leaves are dotted with resin glands. Lower leaves may have deep lobes.
