Fraxinus pennsylvanica

Green Ash, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Eldoret, Kenya, photo © by Michael Plagens

Photographed at Eldoret, Kenya. January 2012.

This popular shade and ornamental tree from North America has been introduced to highland areas of Kenya where rainfall and temperatures are favorable for its rapid growth. I have not determined if this tree is becoming naturalized, i.e. if it is reproducing and becoming established in the environment.

Obati et al. (2009: Proceedings of the 4th KEFRI Scientific Conference) report that the trees can be parasitized by mistletoe species in Kenya.
