A common plant on grazed grassland-savanna near Kiserian, Kenya, Africa. Dec. 2015.

SHRUBBY: Upper portions of one or several stems are mostly herbaceous. Height is about 1.5 m.

FLOWERS: Five red-pink petals are spread widely. The stamen column is bright red, spotted with orange anthers and very conspicuous. Below the green sepals are a series of false sepals (see photo below).

LEAVES: The leaves are deltoid in shape with loosely toothed margins and long pubescence.

RANGE: Apparently distasteful to ungulates including cattle.

FRUIT:

UNARMED: No thorns.
