Observed in a protected area at Nairobi National Park, Kenya. October 2016. Notice many insect-eaten holes, a sign this tree is indigenous.

FLOWERS: Purple pea-flowers in large, showy clusters.

TREE: Smaller examples are shrubby but reaches small tree size up to 13 m tall.

LEAVES: Leaves are compound with about 6 pairs of ovate leaflets.

RANGE: Previously a common tree in upland areas but now uncommon due to over-harvesting for wood.

FRUIT: A thin, wing-like bean pod with a few seeds.

UNARMED.
