Observed in open woodland at the Nairobi Arboretum, Kenya. December 2012. This photo shows the fruit with long, unequal sepals more-or-less fused to the capsule.

Long, slender tubular flowers with normally five pointed lobes. The stigma is exserted and two-lobed. The varieties in the nursery trade tend to have larger clusters of terminal flowers and the most popular are red. Leaves are opposite on the mostly herbaceous stems. Plants observed in Nairobi were about a meter tall.
