Pterodiscus coeruleus (?)

Pterodiscus sp., in Kenya, photo © by Michael Plagens

Photographed near Voi, Kenya. 31 May 2017.

Finding an interesting plant minus flowers can make for a frustrating effort to apply a name. Luckily with the help Flora of Tropical Africa on Facebook I found some people who recognized it. Still, without the flowers the exact identification is a bit uncertain. There should be relatively large showy flowers and a fleshy underground storage root.

Pedaliaceae -- Sesame Family
