small heads of tubular flowers are yellow-orange with resin coating the phyllaries, photo © Michael Plagens This weedy composite was observed in several garden/small farm settings in and around Eldoret. Herbaceous plants less than 1 meter tall. The flower heads are small and widely dispersed on many-branched inflorescence. The leaves are finely divided in a pinnate arangement. Heads have no ray flowers.

  • Disc Flowers: The disc flowers, numbering up to 10, are slender.
  • Ray Flowers: No ray flowers or sometimes just one or two.
  • The flower heads are small, about 4mm diameter, and each has 12 to 20 florets.
  • Phyllaries: One series of resinous bracts closely envelope the florets.
  • Pappus: The seeds are topped by some short, papery scales.
  • Leaves: The leaves are linear or divided into fine, linear segments.
