Tradescantia pallida

Commelina from Rift Valley, Kenya, photo © by Michael Plagens

Among undergrowth in secondary forest, Nairobi, Kenya, Africa. July 2014.

This favorite landscaping and house plant is native to Central America. The linear-triangular leaves are dark purple-green in color while the stems grow along the ground where they often root from the stems. The flowers are pink to lavender and have three petals. This plant has the potential to become an unwanted, invasive exotic plant in Kenya.

Commelinaceae -- Spiderwort Family
