Kitale, Kenya, December 2012. Length is about 5 mm.

The immature stage of March Flies, Bibionidae, are to be found in the mulch among turf grass where they feed on decaying and/or live vegetation. They can be pests if their feeding on garden vegetable roots becomes excessive. These flies are sometimes known as lovebugs due to the behavior of mated pairs remaining in tandem while flying and for extended periods.
